Feist
Just got the Feist CD “Let It Die.” I like it. It’s nice, not loud, mellow music, which I seem to be gravitating towards these days, stuff without heavy guitars
People Eating Tasty Animals
Funny, I did a search for People Eating Tasty Animals (PETA) and found alot of people have such websites. Seems they all heard the humorous acronym and decided to set up their own sites. A lot of them are really bad… some are OK… none are really great.
The search was spawned by this FARK.com article about an idiot with the other PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) who legally changed his to KentuckFriedCruelty.com
This blog in no way endorses eating delicious little bits of fried chicken or big chunks of hearty beef.
But please… stay away from Soylent Green
CBC Radio 3 year end top 14 songs
Listening to the CBC Radio 3 Podcast (podcast 32). The host’s top 14 songs of 2005.
14. Black Mountain – No Satisfaction
13. Wintersleep – Jaws of Life
12. Decomposure‘s Who’s Side Are You On?
The host described it as breakneck. There’s definitely a lot of busy-ness going on. Lot’s of strange percussioning, but definitely very interesting. Here’s a link to another one of Decomposure’s songs called “distraction” (Quicktime).
11. Falconhawk – Try a little Longer
10. Christine Fellows – Vertebrae
She’s certainly got a beautiful voice and a way of enunciating (pronounciating?!) some words. Makes her quite a nice listen. Very mellow and just delicious.
9. Joel Plaskett – Love this town
Nice, mellow song. Guy’s got a really good, slightly roughish voice. He mentions Riviere-du-Loup, a place I’ve been to, so that gives it an extra notch in my mind.
8. Great Lake Swimmers – Imaginary Bars
Acoustic guitar, accompanied. Singer’s voice is smooth, compared to Joel Plaskett. Here’s another song by them called “Bodies and Minds“. Host says “Haunting resonance.”
7. Great Aunt Ida – Macarena
6. Two Hours Traffic – Better safe than sorry
It’s okay, but nothing special to me. I like Christine Fellows and Decomposure better.
5. Immaculate Machine – Phone No.
I love the lyric “There’s a war on, but let’s not let that stop us.” I’ve blogged about this song before. I love it. It’s just got everything together. I love the male and female voices. I love when the female voice unexpectedly jumps in with that lyric above. Of all these songs, this would have been my #1. I love the drums all over the place in the background.
4. Wolf Parade – Shine a Light
I’ve blogged about these guys before. There’s just something about his voice that I’m not sure if I love or hate.
3. New Pornographers – The Bleeding Heart Show
I love the band, but I’m not sure if I would have chosen this as their best song off this CD (Twin Cinemas.) But… to each his own, eh? I might have chosen Twin Cinema, Bones of an Idol, Use it or Sing me Spanish Techno.
2. The Deadly Snakes – Gore Veil
I love the trumpet that pops up in there unexpectedly. The singer’s voice is interesting, almost distorted(?!). Do I like it? Not immediately, but it could grow on me (like Wolf Parade) OK, it’s nearing the end of the song and I don’t hate it.
1. Mood Ruff – Rocket Ship
Not really my bag, but I’ll listen all the way through anyway. Definitely smooooth sound, very buttery. The rhyming is not so fast and hard that you can’t understand what he’s singing. I like the do-doo-doo-doos, but not the “Rocketship”…
Mrs. Children
Here’s a great band from Columbus, Ohio that I found at garageband.com. I put the song Pictures of an Exhibitionist by Mrs. Children on my latest compilation CD, and I found myself listening to it over and over again and snapping my fingers along with the music (I rarely snap my fingers.) What a great track. They’ve got a bunch of other songs available for free download over at garageband.com. Here’s what they say about themselves.
We formed while we were in high school playing covers. Six years later, we are trying to make it on our own. We are between the ages of 20-23. We were recently featured in a Rolling Stone article about up and coming bands (Feb. 20) and have gained a lot of attention in our hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
Back to work
Well, I go back to work on Monday and so I’ll probably end up going back to my old blog schedule, ie: forget about it and ignore the blog and never blog again. Well, it’s been fun… but I do hope I can keep it up. I really enjoy doing this.

Does this work?
Can’t get WordPress RSS link to work
http://codex.wordpress.org/Links_Manager#Adding_Links
I’ve been trying and trying, but I can not get this to work. I want to have my de.licio.us links show up in my sidebar and so I clicked Add Link and in Advanced I put http://del.icio.us/rss/gigantical … which should then display the links included in that feed, right? Well, I get nothing. Can anybody help? Is there anybody out there? Is this what that is for?
A couple of New Pornographers MP3s
I found these great TNP MP3s on the Matador Records website. My first experience with the band was with Twin Cinemas and so, I’ve never heard these. I certainly like them.

Hatrack River – The Official Web Site of Orson Scott Card
This is the website of one of my favorite authors, Orson Scott Card. His best known book is Ender’s Game, about a battle school of children training to save the world from an alien race they call “buggers.” It has spawned many sequels and even some “shadow” or parralel books that take place at the same time Ender’s Game and its sequels. I can’t wait for the movie to come out.
De.licio.us
I’m trying to get my de.licio.us rss feed (http://del.icio.us/rss/gigantical) to appear on my links section on the right side, but it doesn’t seem to want to appear. Any suggestions? Help!
